No More Getting Jerked Around
It works really well and does what it claims. |
The BMW is awfully jerky. I was thinking it must be some combination of the FI, the gearing, the throttle, the horsies, or maybe the leanness of the fuel mixture or something that causes this bike to jerk you around with the slightest of throttle. I dont know exactly what causes it, but what it means is that it requires a gentle hand like no other. Even the engine deceleration pop and engine braking are abrupt. "Smooth" is about the exact opposite of how I would describe the power delivery on this beast.
I dealt with it for a couple weeks because I thought maybe it had to do with my not being used to the bike, but after taking this thing on some rocky first gear-type trails and being unable to use first gear on account of the extreme jerkiness and abrupt surging on throttle, I thought I need to do something about this.
And so I found this little guy (http://www.boosterplug.com/shop/boosterplug-bmw-f800gs-208p.html).
It might not look like much, but this little number transforms the bike. Infinitely smoother power delivery down low with less deceleration popping and seemingly less abrupt engine braking on downshift.
I cant explain how it works other than it makes the fuel mixture richer by tricking the ECU into thinking its colder than it is, but I think thats the main gist of it.
What seems to make this particular unit unique is the fact that there is a thermistor that automatically adjusts the fuel-air mixture so that there is a consistent amount of fuel added across a broad range of operating temperatures.
It works.
